Chuang Yu was born and raised in Dalian, a port city located in Northeastern China, and currently lives and works in New York City. She came to the United States pursuing a degree in Accounting but realized her passion for Art. Chuang received her BFA in Studio Art at New York University (2015) and Graduate Diamonds Certification from Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2016. Chuang studied metalsmithing under the guidance of NYU professors and jewelry artists, Klaus Bürgel and Sayumi Yokouchi, whom she also assists as a teaching assistant. Chuang is currently working for Biba Schutz on her edition jewelry and one-of-a-kind jewelry collections.
Chuang works on various commissions for weddings, music videos, as well as personal wear. Chuang exhibited her metal sculptures and jewelries in her Senior Thesis show, -scapes (2015) and Formation of my Shadow (2016) .
For Chuang, inspirations come from everywhere, nature, people, story, or even her dreams.
